    Mosquitos ate my friend

Soooo... went to a friends place for a big barn raising/ bush party. Great time lots of laughs.

    BUT!

A friend of mine borrowed my explorer deluxe (which is my favourite hammock), and was eaten alive wherever the skeeters could get at him through the bottom of the hammock. I slept in my GT without a big net and woke up with not a drop of blood shed. Now I've slept in the HH a couple of times and stayed skeeter bite free-but has anyone else run into the bottom layer being thin enough to have the nasties after you? I've always felt that the HH material is thicker then the ENO and GT stuff which seems to have the biggest worry. Guess I was wrong, ha!

Yeah, mozzies can usually bite through any single-layer hammock. Under-insulation (pad or quilt) does double-duty keeping their suckers out of your posterior!

I, too, have an Explorer (which I love), and I, too, have never had mosquitos bite me through the fabric. I am very bite prone to mosquitos, and have been happy with the Explorer.

I've been bit through my expedition... but only before I applied permethrin to it.

+1 to what Banjoman said. I slept bite free right next to my son in my treated Explorer while he was eaten alive in his Expedition. Permethrin works.

'skeeters may have new access to zombie and vampire flics they lacked a year ago. TV release on non-premium cable channels and over air-waves. Lurking over shoulders at iPad screens, etc.

When Clark made a hyperbolic claim to rare or unique mosquito-proof hammock beds there followed a survey here on the topic. Most denied ever suffering blood loss drawn through the beds of their hammocks, single or double layer.

How does the fabric of Hennessy hammocks compare to that of Warbonnets? Either by actual weight or by thread-count?

Do you think permethrin will work on zombies?

Dunno, that's for a different thread.

To stop being silly, myself, imagining skeeters becoming bloodthirsty from the movies they are recently exposed to, I could wonder whether Deet-free insect repellent sprayed on the outside of the hammock bottom is as effective as it is directly on the skin.

Or might effectiveness diminish by dawn, when the 'skeeters are again very active?

I am sure,,deet free anything sprayed on hammock would work,,but for only as long as its rated to,,what maybe 8 hrs,,but the permethrin would last way way much longer especially how you applied it.
