Got a new tarp and I need some line for the tie downs. Is there anything I can pick up that's local?
Also what do you use for attaching the line to the stake to make it adjustable?
thanks

Check out this thread Cavemans setup http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=58890 not sure if this link will work.
Yep it works I use the same setup works great.
I have 1.5mm Spectra core line from Ultralight Designs and am making tensioners out of a $3 aluminum arrow from Walmart.

Ok. Well. He said he uses Zing it. Can I get that or something like that locally? You know....like at JoeAnne Fabrics, Gander Mountain, Dicks, etc....
My current setup uses a tensioner attached to the tarp and then the shock cord attaches to the line about a foot down. So that's the one end. But on the stake end, I don't know what to use to attach it to the stake that makes it adjustable. I've got the Old Man Winter tarp and it came with some line that was like super strong thread type of line. Pretty cool stuff but for one, there wasn't enough for the whole tarp, and secondly I don't have a good way to attach the tiny line to the stake very well. Like I'm sure a figure nine would be too big. For the time being I have some pretty neat cord from Dicks Sporting goods that is green with reflective stuff woven into it. I thought it was the nicest ever until I saw the super thin stuff from WL. Now it seems pretty thick to me. Suggestions?

I use 1.8mm spyderline and attach it with a slippery tautline hitch. the spyderline was designed for sailing, so it ties/unties easily even when cold and wet. Doesn't tangle easily either. It is costly though. I order itonline and have it delivered to my local westmarine.
This is what I bought to use but now it seems a bit thick now that I've seen the other stuff.
In the find it local category, you could look for braided mason's line. Available at any big box hardware store. If you have a well stocked fishing supply/outdoor gear place, you could look for planer board line. Ideally you want a line that has minimal stretch, doesn't absorb water and hollow braid so it can be spliced.

Your purchase will work well, Bull.

well....as a mason. I"m sure I know a bit about mason's line. There are several kinds but the "good" braided line might be worth trying. I've got some around the shop somewhere. I usually just use the cheap masons line and it's really not "braided" per se. Both lines do stretch quite a bit though. That's why we use them. The stretch factor keeps the line taught. That's a good thing when laying brick and block.
Gander Mountain has a pretty good fishing section. I guess I could check with them.
The line I bought with the nine's attached becomes much more bulky when you figure that the Old Man Winter has 14 attach points.
