Just got one of these in the mail yesterday. Pretty cool light. Unlike others like it, it clicks on and off so you don't have to constantly squeeze it. Me likey. Might try to DIY a light that uses a single AAA though. Lasts longer and easier to replace. Maybe a small section of aluminum tubing would fit a AAA well. Now the gears are turnin'. >.<

I use the nite ize, the head light model, it works for me to read by and for my night time trips.

+1 Although I rarely turn it on! All I do in my hammock is sleep! Maddog

Most of the recommendations above won't work if you need the light for reading. The two comments about using your head light will work for reading and have the advantage of you already should have one. If you don't plan on doing any reading, then the others should work fine. If you don't need one for reading, another idea is to use your cell phone - if, and only if, you carry one anyway. I clip both my cell phone and head lamp to my ridge line along with my reading glasses.

    Light for ridge line...

I use a Coglan's LED Micro Lantern on my ridgeline. Very compact but enough light to read by, or get organized in the dark. I bought mine at Mountain Equipment Co-op and paid about $6 for it. At first I thought that was a lot of money for such a small light but the lantern lasts a long time, and lights up the hammock quite well.

The lantern includes a clip that can easily snap on to your ridgeline.

I picked up a couple of lights similar to the nite eze ones at WalMart! One is red & one is white! They are sold in the bike department. They fold over your ridge line as if they were made for it
I mostly carry the red one. I try to save the battery on my Petzl E-Lite.

I keep a photon micro red light on a mini s-biner on my ridgeline all the time. Link It's a push button but it also has a tiny switch for handsfree use. I like how it lights up the whole area under my tarp and my night vision is still preserved just in case. Of course I have a head light also for more serious nighttime endeavors.

I have tons and tons of those little lights. I leave them clipped to packs, I leave them clipped to ridgelines, I put them on jacket zipper pulls and anywhere else I think they might be convenient.

The latest one I picked up is this one, from REI: http://www.rei.com/product/829747/msr-led-tent-lights

The idea is supposed to be that you put the magnet on one side of the fabric, and the light on the other side, so you can position it anywhere you want along the fabric. In reality, I pretty much just clip it to the ridgeline, like any other version of those little clip-on lights, so the magnet feature doesn't get used a lot.

The one place where I think the magnet would be great would be if you wanted to "aim" the light, say for reading. Still, I am thinking of swapping for one of the more diffuse lights I have, such as these from Nite Ize: http://www.rei.com/product/808287/ni...t-package-of-2

For car camping, I vastly prefer the Orbit lantern from Black Diamond: http://www.rei.com/product/807910/bl...-orbit-lantern

I've also got a BUNCH of generic, no-name little push button LED light keychains that I've gotten as freebies or impulse buys at the register over the years, and I use those on the ridgelines a lot. A simple bit of plastic baggie over the end of a headlamp makes it a nicely diffused lantern, too.

I am sort of a flashlight geek, so I'm always carrying a handful of different lights - a nice headlamp, a few little unfocused LEDS, a nice CR123 pocket light, etc etc etc.
