HI
My weight allows me to sleep in single layer hammocks but im not sure if I trust the one thin layer over time...
Really not sure if my next hammock is going to be a SL or DL.
Any thoughts on this?

At around 81kilos, I sleep in anything from 1.0-1.9 single layer without much problem. I have been in my 1.9 for over a year and I trust it will last a nice long time. no fear of failure, I just treat my 1.0 very carefully and haven't ended up on the ground yet...
How much do you weigh?

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

Just thinking that if one layer fails you are still hanging if your using a DL
I like the dbl layers not only for the extra strength but as a means to hold my pad in place. It's more comfortable not having the pad slip around and the mosquitoes have a harder time biting though without the pad in place.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
Well, you will definitely be ok in a 1.9, my 1.0 is kind of iffy in my mind, but it holds me up. That 1.9 sl is really tough and you should have absolutely no problem with it lasting a long time as long as you don't put your shoes in the hammock and keep foreign objects out of it.

Just get a bias WWM in dbl and you get the benefits of a dbl at the weight of a single... Win win?
I have a single layer 1.7 or 1.9 (can't remember anymore) hammock that has over 200 consecutive nights in the woods on it, plus another 100 nights (at least) of random use. I'm closer to the 109kg mark and still have total confidence in the hammock. It even has a patch right under my body in the hammock material from when I got got into it with a ballcap that had a metal clasp on it.
So, single layer that has been damaged and repaired with at least a year's worth of sleeping in the woods by a heavy hanger. What is it that you're worried about with a single layer?
Trust nobody!
Im worried about sleeping on the groundWhat is it that you're worried about with a single layer?
I worry about that too, but not because my hammock might fail.
If this were a comfort issue, I would heartily recommend the double layer. Regardless of your weight, the two layers of fabric offer a little better support and less fabric stretch. But on the discussion of reliability, I've developed a lot of trust in these fabrics over the years. I even have a few single layer 1.1 hammocks that I have slept in without problem. They aren't nearly as comfortable for someone of my size, but I have yet to break any of them...and I'VE TRIED!
Trust nobody!
I think my 1.5 single is my most comfortable hammock, maby because I made it myself
