Well 2 days ago I got 100' of 7/64 amsteel in the mail, along with a 5/16 fid. Well fiddley de. Today I think ill cut a straw lengthwise and try that. The wire trick works pretty well too, but I'm going to try the straw as a fid.

Better order some more amsteel now. I can tell that you're going to be out of it in a week

I second that, I just received, yesterday 110 feet, I used it up really quick. I love the colors, now every thing is color coordinated!
My advise is just stick with the folded wire or do yourself a big favor and get a Dritz loop turner.
I am struggling with amsteel splices! I like this diagram, tho

Try this diagram http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/d...ock-suspension Also, Ive had really good luck using a piece of bent wire for a fid,(I use a piece of aluminum electric fence wire, just because I have lots of it on hand) and if you slightly fray the ends of the amsteel, you can hook the frayed end on the wire and pull it thru (its really easy once you get it down!) I had trouble with my whoopies when I started making them last year, but now its second nature---really easy to do!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

It's always best if your an early riser!
+1 on Dritz loop turner. Way easier than wire or a fid. Now if only I could find one for 2.2mm stuff...
That pictorial is pretty hard to follow, and I know what it wants to do.
Best to find some youtube vids. Thats where I learned most of my suff.
Loop turner rocks. Used wire for a long time and the $4 for the loop turner is money well spent
