video: short hike on Roan, gear testing, baking

I'm so lucky to be off every other week. It feeds my need to to be in the wood-this hike ~nothing like the Haute Route that QiWiz is on right now~ is a a quicky overnighter, we had bee hive duty this week....
OK so an overnighter on Roan Righ Knob BUT Vortex's first overnighter on the AT and what a place for that -Roan, known for brutal wind, cold, rain, even snow in July at times.
I get to test a 40F rated PeaPod in the sock (HNO Dirigile).
Neutron fullfills his promise to ultralightweight bake a muffin (at 6000+ feet).
    Poof does the impossible pancakes.
BUT the introduction of the Dredemerer caldera cone mod for the MSR Titan.
It was cold, rainy, WINDY; typical of Roan High Knob but everybody slept warm though I was on the margin:

A great time! So glad Vortex could taste the life with us

Looks like a great time was had by all! You really are fortunate to be living where you are and having the time to do as many trips as you do. Thank you for sharing that with us!

And here I thought it getting down below 70 was Fall weather last weekend...

About that peapod setup, can you provide a bit more detail of how you were getting cold? What parts? Was the wind robbing the pod of heat, or was it just venting out too quickly?

Off every other week? Wow I'm jealous.
It got down in the upper 50s here and I was proud of that but not as much now lol.

Thanks for the report and the peapod show and tell.

Hello there MedicineMan! A pleasant surprise to get a video from you, it was indeed! Thanks for the metric conversion, it got me thinking that that’s pretty high up. That’s not much lower than the highest hill here in AU, no wonder it was wet:

    Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m/7,310 ft)

It’s good to hear talk of cold weather again in the US, that means I’ll be talking about nice warm weather again soon. Here, it’s been the coldest winter in 17 years. That part of the PeaPod that pops back into place is pretty nifty. All that pancake and cupcake talk is making me hungry! Thanks for the video, MedicineMan, it was great!

    Thanks guys!
Brucie. The peapod is separate from the hammock sock, totally separate.
The part that snaps back into position is part of the hammock sock. We call
it the SEEP, I think Mac called it that in one of his hammock socks.
The peapod goes around the hammock completely. The peapod I chose for
this trip was the wrong one! Well honestly I'd had 400 calories that day and was
cold even before we started walking....the wind and rain didn't help.
