Colorado fall hang / Ridgerunner release party / Gear Expo

Cannibal and I have been talking about doing this for a while - once the Ridgerunner came out, we knew a bunch of people were going to be interested in trying one out in person. Plus, with the amount of work Brandon has put into the design, we felt it was worth getting together to celebrate.

Since the point of this get-together is squarely focused on gear, I propose that we should pick out a nice car-camping venue, in the front range, reasonably close to Denver/Ft. Collins/Co Springs, so that it's easily accessible to a lot of people.

I personally will be bringing two Blackbirds and a Ridgerunner, as well as some underquilts and possibly a few pads, to mess around with gear. With fire bans lifted, I might bring along a stove or ten, and a few knives for good measure.

I also plan to use this event to unveil my new design in a two-person hammock stand. The custom tarp for it might not be finished in time for the hang, but the stand has already been tested in prototype form and works great, so with a few more tweaks it will be ready to go.

So, let's start the discussion - please list what weekends in Late September/ Any time in October would be good for you, and we'll try to pick out a weekend to accommodate as many folks as possible.

Also, we should start thinking about venues, so let's hear those suggestions.

$99 "Get Away" fares from Atlanta to Denver are still available for the end of this month on Southwest Airlines. Round-trip would still be cheaper than a trip to a NFL game these days.

    Just sayin.

I can contact the wolf guy if folks want to camp at the Wolf Sanctuary again.

Formal campgrounds will likely still be full, or at least full enough to be irritating unless we get high enough up that folks are scared off due to the nighttime temps.

I know a couple of pretty good car camping sites near Pine Junction and Bailey. Also a good spot just up the hill from the trailhead between segments 4 & 5 on the Colorado Trail. It would be a dry camp, but less than 1/4 mile walk from the parking lot.

    White Ranch?

Sure JeffCo Open space White Ranch is a mile from the parking lot, but it is free and low enough that snow should not be a problem for a while.

    See OutNBack's recent trip report.

I'd actually prefer to go a bit higher - I'd like to see it get cool enough at night to at least be able to get a good feel for how different insulations are working on the RR.

That said, if others would prefer to keep it lower and warmer, I'm happy with that too.

    Such a tease.

I've never been to Colorado and this makes it all the more tempting.

$149 each way out of Philly on Southwest.
Not as much of a bargain, but still probably cheaper than a family trip to an amusement park.

    other?

OK, how about Kelly Dahl or Golden Gate Canyon - Reverend's Ridge Campground?.

Kenosha Pass has a lot of hammock friendly sites.

Burning Bear by Grant is good.

Rolling Creek Trailhead that separates Segment 3 and 4 of the Colorado Trail has many excellent sites just a short walk south.

    Colorado has got some places.

Burning Bear is a great campground for hammocks! Lots of good spots, fire-rings, and not overly crowded...even in peak season.

I still can't get used to your new username food ringtail-THFKAfood.
