Love your tenacity & attitude! I have no doubt that we have a professional splicer in the making

That sounds like a good workout. U must be very coordinated. I just do it while sitting on the couch.

Forego all the ceremony, once you master amsteel, then you will be ready for 1.75 zing it. Now there is a whole lotta fun. It is fun creating things with splicing and creating fixed eyes.

As someone said here in another thread, learn to splice the braided mason's line and then everything else is a piece of cake.

Wow, what am I doing wrong that I don't have any trouble?!

I cut the Amsteel on a diagonal with a pair of lineman pliers, mark my insert and exit points, compress the Amsteel between the marks to increase the diameter, take a piece of folded piano wire, fish it in the cord at the entrance mark and out at the exit, spread the wire loop open and slip the cut end of the cord in the wire loop, massage the expanded part of the Amsteel over the cut end while gently pulling the two ends of the piano wire through continuing until just before emerging if making a fixed eye or gently working it out for a whoopie sling.

    Gentle, loving massage. Good massaging.

Hmm...I did not taper my ends...I did try the tech line, also. I actually almost had it with the techline using some picture hanging wire. I'll destroy a few more yards, then (I predict) become a competant splicer.
Thanks, y'all, for the supportive comments!

Just in case you haven't seen this, here's a short video I have posted several times. It is only for showing how to bury amsteel as I did not use any type of brummel at the eye. I used a loop turner, but it would work the same with a folded over wire. It starts with tapering the amsteel....http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...99&postcount=7. Hope it helps.

I started making whoppie slings with yarn needles from Walmart. I did the taper just like the picture at this link. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ht=yarn+needle

The only little bit that has been tough was pulling the needle out at the other end. I often grabbed it with a pair of pliers. (metal needles)

I now use the loop turner and find them even easier. Can you explain what you are doing // where you are getting hung up?

Oh, I also have used this spread sheet for calculations when I did the markings on the rope to http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=29803

    Thumbs down

Pulling the line back into the bury. I was using picture hanging wire with a bend, and the point of the bend kept catching on the inside of the column of opened up amsteel.
