The cheap underquilts are right next to the cheap cuben tarps. ...

Seriously though, you can get HIGH QUALITY SECOND HAND for the same price you can get POOR QUALITY NEW. Scour this HF's "For Sale" forum, whiteblaze's "selling used gear" forum and geartrade. You can find down items at Goodwill, Salvation Army and other thrift stores, if you're a DIYer.

    Good luck!!

I bought the snugpak uq from DD Hammocks for EUR 75 (or if it was GBP). That's the cheapest I've seen so far (although I haven't clicked on any of the links in this thread ) and it works just fine.

Go to Eddiebauer.com and get a packable down blanket, they are around $80.00 . Sew some loops for your bungee string and BAM ! A cheap UQ that will keep you warm down to the 20* s. you don't have to buy all this fancy gear , it's nice but you can get by just fine with localy purchased goods.

I'm intrigued... is this the blanket you were talking about? Seems like a great idea. Down for $80 would be awesome.

I would be intereted in how you would not be fighting gaps using a blanket with hooks at the end. Seems like an extra 20 for a jar bridge is a no brainer.

The conversion is simple ! Webbing loops every 6 inches to run bungee cord and cord locks thru ! Then you may cinch together ends and run your suspension thru. Jacks R Better has a couple TQ's that convert I've used them and they work well !

There is old threads on this blanket , but I recently learned they no longer carry this item any longer in my area ! Let me know if you find any ? They had the words Airstream written down the side .

I rigged up a sleeping bag Shug style and it works great. If i get brave enough to hack on it I'm sure it could be made into an awesome UQ. Since I've had it for 15 plus years its essentially free. My plan is to use this in combo with a 3/4 3 seasons UQ as a really cold weather set.

If i get really brave ill hack my Western Mountaineering badger into a TQ, I doubt ill get that brave though.

I can only echo the sentiment of use what ya got until you can get whatcha want. Combos of pads blankets and old sleeping bags can work, and youll lean in the process.

But, the kick *** quilts jar bridge is a bargain, if it works. Climasheild is a great insulation.
