You must be reading my mind!...I'm thinking of going somewhere the weekend of the 22nd, but I won't know 'til the last minute whether I can or not. Was thinking Hunting Island if there's any suitable sites available...may not be at the last minute...may have to go to Santee or somewhere. I planned on posting here if I was able to go in case anyone wanted to join me on short notice.
I guess the short answer is I'd like to go that weekend, don't know yet if I can, will post as soon as I find out!
I'm already committed for the 22nd; headed to the mountains to play motorcycle hooligan!
I thought about hanging that weekend here at J. Strom Thurmond Lake. Not sure if it is a go or not yet. Trying to get the house renovations done. Sure is hard to get done when I prefer to hang.

By the way, FYI: www.campsitephotos.com has pictures of all the numbered sites at Hunting Island, Edisto, Huntington Beach, and Myrtle Beach State Parks...pretty cool resource if you're trying to reserve a site for hanging...
lets do something 21-23 timeframe then as well

Here are the pics I took this morning. There IS a host now and I spoke with her for quite awhile. She said there is a limit of 2 tents per site, but since we don't use those, we can hang as many hammocks as we want. Looking at the sites, I think we can easily all fit on two sites. If we really want to spread out, we could take a third. There are four sites adjacent to the bathhouse. I think if we get sites 12 & 15, we should have plenty of room and trees. The bathhouse was clean and the water ran hot in the showers immediately. There is water, a fire ring, a picnic table and a lantern stand at each site. There was NO ONE there today. The host said she thinks we will have no problem getting sites as they have had hardly anyone there. There are numerous posting about NO ALCOHOL, but she said it IS ALLOWED on the campsites only, if you choose to bring any. So what do y'all think? Abbeville is only 4 miles away. We could go into town, perhaps Yoder's (an mennonite restaurant) for supper Friday night, if anyone wants to.

Also, there are mountain bike trails in the park. There is a free rifle range about 3 miles away, if anyone is interested in that. (If so, let's store them in the vehicles.) There are currently 3 geocaches, one of which is a kayak cache. The lake is for non-motorized boats only. Fishing is allowed.
1) Thanks for heading out and taking pictures and checking things out. Very official looking.
2) This place looks good (to me), and the fact that I can go three miles away and shoot things is a plus.
I'd almost suggest that maybe three sites would be kinda good so we're not all on top of one another, but I'm inexperienced and don't know what I'm talking about...but it crossed my mind, so I thought I'd mention it.
+1
