    Zipper trouble

Ok! This is my first DIY hammock. I bought a zipper by the yard at Joanne's they didn't have any double sided pull zippers so I bought a couple singles, thinking I could put one to the outside and the other on the inside. I have the zipper completely stitched in only to discover that you can only install them in one direction. Any suggestions?

If you know who made the zipper and what size it is you can probably get double pull sliders on line. Both those items are required for best results. The size is easy. Measure the closed zipper teeth from edge to edge in millimeters. Zippers are sized that way. 3mm wide is a #3. 5mm is #5 and so on.

The manufacturer is an other issue. Check the packaging, if there is any to see if the maker is listed. Check the tab of the slider and see if a maker is designated there. If you see a YKK you are in ouck, They are one of the most popular makers. But others do exist. Sliders are all proprietary and can vary even with the same manufacturer. Otherwise go back to Joanne's and ask them to order double pull sliders for the zipper you purchased. You might have to pay a service fee or shipping but that may the way to go. They should be able to get them or at least help you figure out who made the zipper.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Being your local Fireline, you might want to try Field's Fabrics, (right in downtown SL or one of the others..GR has a few locations)
    They got lots of supplies.

Bring your zipper with to match it up.

Another trick I've done is salvage a pull from some of those kids backpacks (I have 4 kids, somehow that means 285 backpacks )
Anyways, those backpacks can have 10 or 15 zippers. If the bags are old, or last years trend and out of fashion, I cut off the zippers for other projects.

I usually salvage zippers from anything I can. But the pulls are only useful for those zippers, or the _chance_ they are compatible with what you have. You might be able to get a mismatched zipper slider to work, but I wouldn't want to bet the ranch on it in a mission critical piece of gear. The "universal" replacements are universally bad from my experience.

If its from Joanne's, I'm willing to bet it's a 4.5c. Look on the back of the pull and see if it says 4.5c on it. Seattle Fabrics has pulls from #3 on up. you can go right on their sight and order the size you need.
