Best way to rig a tarp

    Hello!

I am wondering how I should tie off my tarp with the tree. I have 2 loops made in the line that I use the links to connect the tarp to the line. So on the end I have a bunch of line(several feet) and when I tie it off I have a handful of excess line. While it's no big deal to have excess line after the knot, it is a burden to have to pull ten feet of line through a loop or knot. I need a secure knot(or hitch) or an adjustable one because if the line isnt taunt then the tarp will sag. I have pictures to show you. Lemme know if you want more. Thanks!

I may not be on the same page, but it sounds like you're looking for a figure 9.

No need for all that extra stuff, I like to keep it simple. Take a six/seven (or longer) foot line and tie a loop in one end. Place around tree and pull tag end thru loop. Line is now attached to tree. I then have a smaller line attached via prussik knot. This stays on the line and is left long. I then tie the tarp rigdeline tab to the prussik using a simple bow knot. Repeat on other tree. Tarp can be shifted via the prussik and removal is easy.

Prusiks! I splice loops on the ends of my lines so I can larks head my stakes rather than tie a knot. I like rigging you can work with gloves on. .

Can you give me a video on this? Or some pictures? I need visuals or a really detailed step by step. I can follow most of this but I don't know where to tie the prussik knots on. Also doesn't help that I've never used prussik knots! Will research them and give it a try

I use a tarp ridgeline kit from Arrowhead Equipment. The small carabiners are all on prusiks that are easily adjustable. Setup and take down is quick and easy.
One carabiner hooks to the d-ring on your tarp, and the other you wrap around the tree and hook back onto the tarp ridge line. The link below has a couple pictures that show this.

This is what I do with prusiks. You can replace the 2 pieces of hardware (microbiners) with slippery half hitches or slipped buntlines if you like, and you have a totally hardware-free setup.

This is what I have on my ridgeline to do a quick connect to the tree. I use one of Dutch's trap flyz on the other end. My Tarp gets attatched to two prussics with small S clips. Alot like what Tendertoe does in his video. Except I run my line over my tarp and not under like he has it in his video. Both ways are acceptable and work, just depends on how you like it.

Thanks everyone! I had 2 figure 9's laying around and used them on each end and it seems to work. It sags and my original set up didn't but it is WAY easier to set up and take down. Will try the prusik method this weekend and see how that is.
