    Splicing zing it

I just spliced all my zing it lines for the first time the other night.

I went to hobby lobby, and in the section with the knitting needles found the perfect tool.

I believe it was called something like a weaving needle

Its about 6" long with a dull pointy tip on one side and a large needle eye on the other.

I used the dull pointy tip to preform the hole, then went back in with the eye tip to pull the cord through. Worked great

I was able to splice fixed eyes into all my zing it lines (with no experience) in about 5 minutes each, without having to trim the pull throughs at all.

They are sold everywhere in offshore fishing shops and online catalogs . Or just Google it!!

many thanks for the HINT/SUGGESTION about the same process w/ EVEN SMALLER line

seeing splicing done w/ HOLLOW ACE fishing line made me much more confident about splicing my 1.75mm ZING-IT

i found a video on splicing, using the REVERSE LATCH NEEDLE, WHICH MAKES THE PROCESS A BREEZE

HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS as much as it did me

That's a great video! Now doesn't that make splicing 1.75 Zingit seem simple?!

I started making loops and putting eyes in 2.2mm zing it for tarp rigging after buying my first dutchware... Now i find myself looking for excuses to replace end knots with eyes, make continuous loops with entrained dutchware, you name it.

Tools are simple and cheap (unless it takes you four trips here and there to figure out what works):

    #5 knitting needle
2 lengths of Steel fishing line, about 2 ft
    Sharp scissors

I use one length of fishing line folded back on itself to make a hook for making brummels and buries. The long hook slides easily into the opening I make with the knitting needle, and it's fairly easy to hold the end of the cord with it as you pull it through.

For Macdonald brummels, I use another length of fishing line with a flat 2" hook folded into it and the bare tip on the hook folded over flat about 1/16 of an inch so it doesn't catch on fibers. The short hook allows you to extract it from the loop when you pull it through the brummel.

I also thin the ends of the zing it to make buries easier, but I just cut the end with scissors at an acute angle.
