Hammock camping with BSA Troop in Valley Fiorge

Went camping with the Boy Scouts this weekend in beautiful Valley Forge, Pa. Only 3 of the 8 campers brought their hammocks! I made hammocks for the entire troop last year!

My son, the Scoutmaster, and myself were the only hammockers. The 5 kids that didn't bring their hammocks were jealous.

Any way, here are some shots of my setup,

Good on ya! I fish in the little feeder creek on the left side of the entrance into Valley Forge National Park when I visit family down there. Used to run around the park twice to taper-down for the Philadelphia Distance Run (Half Marathon) when I had knees.

Taking the kids out in any mode is to be commended!

I be displaying my new hammock gear to the parents of my pack and I am sure when me and my son get set up at our first camping trip this year we will have a lot of interested parties. Good job trying to get some young ones hooked.

Hats off to you, for your involvement in scouting. There really should be a hammock badge.

especially considering the knots, leave no trace, innovations and such. let the boys diy and give them a badge.

I wish I would have known that you were going to be there as I'm not even 10 minutes from the park. I didn't even know you could camp there. Well next time shoot me a PM and I'll stop by/ help out how ever you need.

Funny you should mention that. There is an "unofficial" hammock merit badge, complete with requirements. See this thread.

We didn't camp in the park, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Department runs a three site scout camp. Very nice camp.
