What about the toxaway tarps from arrowhead equipment... They seem like a solid tarp and for a good price...

You can get a Chinook 12 x 9.6" tarp for $35 and change plus shipping. Several came up on Google search. I have one and am happy with it. PU coated nylon. Not the lightest if backpacking is a concern, but I know you said it wasn't right now. It beats the old blue tarp I started with!

I think the Chinook is a bargain!

I just posted on my first trip with my 14 x 12 chinook, so I won't go into any great depth here. I believe I paid less, but here's the lowest price I found on the fly!

Tent footprints make fantastic budget tarps.

~$21 shipped from Kelty to your door. All I did was re-seal the top seam, and sew in a little reinforcement in the corners. It has been a fantastic budget tarp - packs fairly small, and only weighs about 1.5 lbs. Think outside the box, folks. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to 'join the club.'

+1 on this! I never even bothered with sealing the seam, just put it up out of the package and had no trouble with leaks.
