What kind of cord is your tarp ridgeline?

I really still like the Spectra No-Tangle line the best. Love orange and always just tie knots on my tarp lines so no need to splice.

I've got one made from zing-it. Haven't tried it yet but I'm lookin forward to it!

I always use either techline or zing it, depending on where I've recently ordered. I use a biner on one end, and prussics with micro-biners or the small niteize s-biners to make it easy to set up and adjust the tarp and a small figure nine on a prussic at the end to easily tension the ridgeline. This set up work either above or below the tarp, depending on preference.

Anyone use braided mason line? Until I can get a hold of some zing it/lash it, that's what my tarp ridge line and guy outs will be

I've used it, and it works well in many regards. However, as has already been mentioned, it abrades easily. It also "grabs" everything (i.e., leaves, twigs, debris, etc..), and tangling is an issue. I have some braided mason ridge/guy lines in the sack with my emergency tarp kit, but for my regular camp/hammock tarp(s), I no longer use it. Now, I favor a variety of the other options which have been mentioned (e.g., zing-it/lash-it, Lawson spectra fusion and pull cord).

Depending on Tarp.....i have dutch stingerz with lash it to use with my Simplicity tarp......and dutch CRL with wasp for my 13ft DD Hammock 4x4 Tarp

paracord here, i don't know about stretching because I've never had to retighten it. But I'm longing for a Ducth CRL setup with reflective cord. Paracord is heavy

I flirted with ridgelines for a while, liked the idea of taking tension off the tarp by running it underneath. But the potential drawbacks, water wicking, abrasion had me then running the line over the tarp. But then I don't get the benefit of tarp support. So now I have returned to end tie-outs (if it's good enough for Shug... sounds like a marketing jingle). Less tangle, weight and I don't miss the vaunted adjustability, my system (for which I will be mocked if I mention it again) gives me plenty of adjustability on the fly.

But back to the OP's question, I use 1.2mm single braid, 8 strand dyneema fishing line (300lb test). It is doubled (from the tarp, round the tree, back to the tarp), so is strong enough IMO.

Interesting question since it was asked before some of the new Dutch Bling was made for RL's.

I still use Lash-it(grey brother of yellow Zing-it). I use it as a CRL and usually over my tarp. Sometimes I have it under my tarp.

Former Army, I used 550 cord on everything, one it was available, and 2 its was free, I still have thousands of feet, spools and spools of wonderful 550 cord. As I got more into the "hang" I ditched it for better, less stretch, lighter lines. You can earn a PhD in cordology, this is the place to look and research. Zingit and lash it are the pretty much go to, but applications will drive the train. Good luck.....

I use end tie outs instead of a CRL as well. Dutch Stingerz attached to both ends, spliced to Zing It. It's quick and easy to get a taught and centered tarp this way.
