What kind of cord is your tarp ridgeline?

I saw the post about hammock ridge lines but what type of cord/rope do people use for tarp ridge lines?

I currently just have paracord, but am new so I don't really know if this is adequate or not - it's just what I had available.

Is the paracord going to stretch too much? What types of cord would be better? Why?

    Thanks for sharing

Paracord will definitely stretch on you. There are a handful of different lines that people generally use such as Zing It, Lash It, Braided masons line, Dyneema and Spectra Cord. I use 1.75 mm Lash It. http://www.reddenmarine.com/samson-rope-lash-it.html

You can also purchase a ridge line kit such as this one from Arrowhead Equipment. http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/a...ts/show/994223

Zpacks.com has a couple different types of line of you want to look at them as well.

Lastly, these other types of line are more popular because they do not stretch and are a lighter weight line compared to Paracord.

Zing-it and Lash-it are same except for color (yellow or red vrs gray). I use Zing-it 1.75

Whoopie Slings aslo sells a couple of different tarp line kits or you can make your own.

Next you have to decide if you are going to hang your tarp under or over the ridge line.

I'm using 1.75mm Zing-it. Strong and no stretch and can be spliced. I use the same for prusics on it with a couple of extra wraps.

Is there a reason nobody's mentioned Amsteel? Is it not that great for a ridgeline?

YoU could certainly use Amsteel, but is looked at as overkill.

Right now I'm using some utility line I picked up at Walmart 45' for under $2.
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Attwood-Di...-Line/16350992
It works with figure nines well, it was cheap, no stretch, and local, so I'll use it for now.
Hammocking, car camping, backpacking, kayaking, and mountain biking. Getting in touch with nature is getting expensive. Good thing I can DIY!
