People who do this for a living (ie, biologists, naturalists, and other scientists who go out to jungles and live in the tree tops) either have a large safety net, or sleep with a harness hooked to a nearby branch.

yeah Ive already seen my life pass before my eyes a couple times already and at my age falling out of the chair hurts...wonder if you could hang one of those collapsible play tunnels?

or maybe a pair of coveralls that has a harness sewn into it at the knees hips and shoulders so you just put the coveralls on and hang yourself up.. probably have to velcro the sleeves so your arms don't dangle

nail your shoes to the kitchen floor lace 'em up and bar the door and thank the lucky stars for the roof over you
