    Hanging in Chicago

Are there any Chicagoans who know if you can hang between trees in city parks? I haven't found any rules or ordinances prohibiting it, but I would like to make sure I won't be breaking any rules. Obviously, I don't intend to camp.

I'd just go ahead and hang. If the police don't like it, they will tell you and give you a chance to take it down (assuming there aren't any signs telling you not to). If you decide to argue or put it up again after they leave, then they might arrest you.

I agree...as long as your not blocking a prairie path or something of that nature I don't see why it would be a problem...but then again it's chicago. Have you hung anywhere yet in Illinois?

    hanging

there is not any law saying not to hang but use tree straps as to not damage anything.
    also 2 words of caution
    1. do not leave it unattended
2.do not sleep in it overnight??

    best of luck

Don't know. Better not to ask (they'll find an ordinance or pass one). Just enjoy.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission.... or it is better??? either way....

City parks are for city dwellers to use as a backyard but most da time only from sun up to sun down...
nail your shoes to the kitchen floor lace 'em up and bar the door and thank the lucky stars for the roof over you

Just don't hang close to the street or the wonderful parking people will check the "other" box and give you a $75 ticket . Seriously, I think if you are off the beaten path they shouldn't say anything. I hang in the forest preserves back in the woods from time to time.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I thought. I'm just looking to relax on these nice fall days. No overnights. I imagine a cop may assume it is wrong because he hasn't seen anyone hanging before. A pesky minority in the CPD has been known to invent ordinances.

@habitat: My IL hanging has been limited to the forest preserves, Rock Cut SP, Shawnee NF, and Starved Rock SP.

I have been thinking the very same thing, only I am tempted to stay overnight. have not done it tho.

Been doing a recon around Millenium park and the lakefront trail. Some out of the way corner where wandering pedestrians law officers or drunks/crazies might not go. But there are just so many people. Some of the best spots are occupied by, well lets just say the spot is taken.

I would have no problem in the day hanging for a short nap over by the museum, but just cant seem to find the courage to stay overnight.

I'd get skeered and take the train home.
