Hey, what if the metal studs are from back in the 80's when they were beefier? I am stationed at a heliport built during that time.

Sorry, but no. Even the ones here, from the 20's, that are "beefier" than that are not acceptable for hammock use. The one thing I've discovered is sometimes, the studs around the closets and doors can be wood, even though the rest are made os steel. Check that out.
I would not advise you to hang from metal studs or even a door frame in a metal stud constructed building. Most newer not all will have 2x4x16.5 wood ran on walls that will hold cabinets, TV's if they where planned in advance, but most don't even have that not even in doorways but some may if it was planned in the blueprint stage for wood doors or windows. You can open up the wall and run 2x4 studs inside the metal stud tracks, and even crib them inside but not really worth the effort, but you will still need to anchor studs to foundation (sill plate), and ceiling joist (or top-plate). Most building codes will require 2x4 double top-plate on exterior and load bearing walls (in buildings that don't have steel beam construction, or have metal truss roof system), and some will require a fire break around the 4' mark. If steel stud roof system, or steel beam construction NOPE not gonna happen, if block, and truss with steel studs there is a small but slim chance you could make a change. If you do decide to open up the walls and retrofit a system get it checked out by a licensed structural engineer, and work directly from his/her drawings, and if you are getting a discount for home ins. due to the extra fireproofing of a steal studded home expect a change in rates also. All in all it's a no go on the steel stud hang idea IMO.

I would definitely stay away from attaching to the metal studs. More than likely if an interior wall, it will be just a light gauge stud, like a 25ga or 20ga. Anything you screw into it will pull right out. Especially the 25ga they are really only there to hold up the drywall. I've even seen framers not even screw off the top and bottom of the stud into the track, just put into place and the board will hold it.
It can be accomplished, but at much greater expense than a stand.
Search the forum, last week I saw a thread about a stand at IKEA, $70, and very portable.
Lots of ideas here for DIY stands.
I'm a plumber and I've worked around metal studs before. As was already said above I wouldn't even attempt to hang a hammock from them.
Here's a stand from REI I was thinking of getting for lounging when there aren't trees.

Unless the "metal studs" are I-Beams, I wouldn't even think about it.
