So I was reading about layering clothing to stay warm today while laying in my hammock. The basics are inner moisture wicking layer like silk, a middle insulating layer like fleece, and an outer shell to keep the weather off you. My mind went instantly to my hammock. Seems like the sleeping bag is the first layer and is the insulation followed by a hammock which does nothing for warmth followed by a under quilt for warmth but is fragile to the weather. Cover it all with a tarp and call that a shell? My thought was why not make a hammock that is more like an under quilt thats strong enough to support a body laying in it. Warm and comfy. Then have a traditional hammock that acts as a shell to take the place of the underquilt? Put a tarp over that and there you have it. I hope I have made clear my question. What do you all think? Why has this not been done or has it?
