    guy line adjusters

I am not sure what they are called, but just about every tent I have ever owner has the black plastic piece with 2 holes in it and the line gets fed thru and finished with an overhand knot. You then can slide it up and down the line to adjust. I don't know what made me think of it but I realized that I don't see any of those in the forum. I am aware of the line lock and niteze and such, but haven't seen a variation like those. Do they not hold well? weight to much? or is it because they touched a tent and have cooties?

For tarp guy lines they work (so do Figure-9s). And, several of our HF vendors offer them too. Some are even ultralight - others glow in the dark.

I'm just a newbie, but me thinks the 'triangular' shaped ones are most popular for HF folks... anyone else chime in?

I have a couple of Figure 9's, a couple of line lok's, and still use the " old fashioned three hole jobbers". I just can't get myself to throw them away. I figure they have worked for years, don't take up much space and if I didn't have one or two loose I'd need to add an extra guy out and not have one. Plus if someone needs one I have one to give.

The tensioning devise you refer to has a name I am sure, but whatever you call it, it will likely come loose when the line gets a good shaking, as in very windy conditions. I have a bunch of them, store bought and machine shop made. They are in a box somewhere. Have no plans to hunt them up. The devises being used today by most of the HF hangers are way better for doing the job. However, the design has been around for years, and who knows, you could enjoy using them.

I've been using knot bones. They are really easy to use and I can use them for a variety of other uses involving lines. They are more versatile than alot of other line tensioners.

I think you are talking about these...
    http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com...products_id=93

Here's another alternative. They are stationary at the tarp pull-out which means you can adjust from under the tarp if it's raining...

Here is my take on the problem...

Being new to this I tried a few suggestions to keep weight low. I'm using the combo figure 9 (it has the biner attachment) on my tarp and I did a larks head with prussics on my guy lines. They all worked really well in the windy weather yesterday.

i am aware that knots are lighter then hardware. I was just curious as to why i havent seen anyone using these. i have used them in a tent with high winds and rain and didnt feel like they loosened. The self adjusting lines with either shock cord or tubing seem much better. I will be learning my knots and diy some of those but until then I think I may steal some from my wally tent.
