Tarp for a spreader bar hammock

    Just wondering.

Have a 10' Hammock which previously I set a structural ridgeline at about 8'6". I added 7" spreader bars last night and that helped a lot.

I used the spreader setup similar to below only one long piece of amsteel and will connect to a biner. Great improvement and actually feels about like a 13' long hammock.

The issue is is added about 2+ feet to the length of my hammock so now
I think I need a bigger tarp if I want to keep the biner under the tarp. YOu spreader bar guys, do you have the spreader assembly under your tarp ??

    Thanks

My triangle at the mini-spreader bar is an equilateral triangle.
So, I'm adding twice the bar length, which in your case would be less than 14", once all the angles are taken into account.

How is your tarp set up ??

This helps with comfort but adds weight in the form of the spreaders then you need a bigger tarp and thats heavier also unless you shorten your hammock.

I use a 12' tarp so no problem with coverage.

Yes, this adds weight. A bit over an ounce with 6" long, 5/8" oak dowels. Plus it adds some fiddle factor. But, I like to fiddle.
I do not use this on my backpacking hammock because that is over 10% additional weight and I don't like to fiddle after a long day on the trail.

+1 on what Mad777 said. I also have an equilateral set up with my spreader bar. The spreader has 5" between holes and so only adds 5" on each end. When I made my first spreader bar, I had 7" of Amsteel from the joint to the loop, but found it had no additional benefit.

My tarp is 12' along the ridgeline and I have not had any problems with coverage.
