Thumbs up hello from the beautiful Central Coast of California

I just joined after watching a ton of videos by Sean Emery or Shug as he calls himself on Youtube. I didn't know there was a place that hammock lovers could get together and relate until I watched all his videos. Man, them are good videos.. specially the ones with Karl in them, uh huhhhh. Gots so I was lookin for Karl in each and every one of 'em.

Well, about me. Very briefly, I'm a nature lover and I live in the most beautiful part of California, the Central Coast. I chose to honor where I spend darn near every weekend of the year, and vacation time too and that's my nickname, Big Sur. Where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean and abruptly end.

I'm an obsessive person. Hammocks is a recent obsession since I met two fellers on the trail I shared my camp with who were hangers. They made it look so much better than tenting so I got a little involved and caught the disease. I tend to focus from one obsession to another, but there is always one constant and that is Big Sur. Man, I just can't get enough. Yet sometimes lately I think I have been getting bored but I think that's only because I spend so much time alone and don't have any backpacking buddies.

So, I thought I'd give a little holler out tonight, introduce myself, and see where this forum goes. Who knows, maybe might meet someone I wanna share trail time or camp time with!

If any of you east coasters want to experience a real mountain at sea level, well, sea level is where they start here but believe you me, they go up and up and up and up and up.. they go so far up it makes your head spin and so beautiful it takes your breath away, literally, gasping for air, air breathe breathe breathe! Anyway, if you wanna give that a go, I got some places I can take you to though I warn you if you pick one of the redwood groves, some of the redwoods are so big you might need 20 feet of webbing!

Welcome from Salem, Oregon. How is old SLO these days? As Poly alum I sure do miss life down there. I'd love to try hanging from some of those 20' webbing trees some time.

SLO is doing good except they have thoroughly mangled or bungled things up on the closest intersection to my home. Happiest city in North America and Forbes #1 best place to live, it's not that bad but I do have a mad turrets syndrome every time I get close to home due to how they bungled things up..

What was your educational focus while at Cal Poly?

Anytime you wanna go, look me up and send me a note. I go every weekend practically! Well, not every weekend to the same place, and really I like a different place the best, a place called Dutra Flat which has no ocean view nor mighty redwood. It is however a deer playground and the place where I go to work on my story I'm writing.

Here's a little taste of the view coming back down the Salmon Creek trail. Here it's only like 1300 elevation if that.

I like your nickname there wolf brother. I would have picked "LoneWolf" for my nickname since that's essentially what I am and have been most of my life, but since this is a place involving the great outdoors and BigSur wasn't taken and I'm extremely obsessed about this great land, I transformed quickly to a hawk and swooped down and claimed that nickname right quick.

Anyway, was going to ask.. Did I see you on a video with Shug? And by the way, I agree, it's very addictive. But since I'm so opinionated and individualistic about things I'm probably going to go the DIY route on just about everything from here on out (I accept the challenge). Well, I started hanging without knowing anything and bought an ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) Doublenest because the mountaineering store near me only carrys them and they carry usually only the finest of anything leaving out the crap to the lower priced stores. But I'm fixing to DIY the Doublenest with my own bug netting with zipper, I'm going to also be making some hanging closet kind of contraption. Soon as my super heavy duty Toyota sewing machine arrives, that is.
