I'm gonna try to make it down there. I wish I could give a concrete commitment, but with it being a 6 hour drive even in summer, all bets are off. It'll be a call based on the weather forecast, primarily for the drive from Ohio.

AS I usually do, been keeping track of the weather in VA & points west (west is where most of "our" weather comes from) I'm thinking it may be prudent to bring warmer weather clothing this year. It's supposed to get to around 65 here in Cincinnati sometime this week,,,,,, so insert long string of expletives here ____________________________________ !
I don't think swim gear would be appropriate,,, but then again,,,,,
A BIG THANKS to those offering stuff for the raffle!! Even though I rarely win, I love that part,, nearly as much as I love hiking in the mountains!
I"m hoping to arrive early PM on Thursday, & MY plan is:
A) Hike to the summit of Mt Rogers to spend the night.
B) Hike to "somewhere" on the AT, just some random place, no real plan!*
C) Hike to the Wise & spend the night there.
I will not make a final decision until pulling in to the park which of the above I'll do & MAY even do plan D, & I have NO idea what that is,,,, yet.
*I do love the walk from the Wise to the Scales.

Yeah! Snow this Friday! Not much, but it's a beginning.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

We should be able to get everyone in and out of the park while the big flakes fly. Group effort ya know. Keep those positive vibes for some snow .

There is SNOW at Grayson!!!
AND, temps of 17.5 with a wind chill of around 8.
Yea, not much snow, but still it's snow, so that is a start. It is snowing here in NW Cincinnati (very few & tiny flakes) as I type, so hopefully it will pick up on it's way to VA. Wind is out of WSW, VA is SSE(ish) from here.
Edit (1830): looked at the live camera, it is still snowing there!

HMMMM!
Only 10 signed up so far,,,, I know a few not signed up who are coming, so figure that many others just haven't signed on yet, & that's OK, not required! So I recon I'm just whining
We do have only 26 days to go (25 if arriving Thursday) & it looks like we will have good weather,,,, at least this far out.
To sign up!
So time to figure out what you are bringing to keep warm & eat. Gear & stuff just for fun & ways to keep your camera & other stuff warm & running. Way to keep water warm or at least liquid.
What do you want to do, if anything, when not at the fire? Like posted at the beginning, there are quite a few hikes in the area. PLEASE let someone know where you are going, & when to expect you back. This is just so that if you don't come back we will know it's OK to root through your gear.
And, as a reminder: alcohol consumption is forbidden in the park.
I look forward to seeing everyone there.

I'll be sure to leave my van keys with my hammock and gear if I disappear into the wilderness. Someone should be able to siphon the 27 gallons that will be in the tank - or just drive it home - please take care of it!
I'll have a spare truck battery and a power converter if anyone needs to charge their computers and phones. I'll be bringing a bunch of movies on my laptop for entertainment. Any requests? I already have "The Wild Bunch".
