ENO or Hennessy for upcoming trip

I have a Hennessy Explorer zip - I have used it on a few trips in the summer. I have an ENO DN in the backyard. I have never taken it camping. I am going on a trip to the ADK High Peaks in 2 weeks. I am thinking I won't need the bug net so I was considering taking the ENO instead of the Hennessy as it is much more compact and lightweight. What do you think?

In two weeks, evening temps should be in the fifties at least in ADK, so that will keep the mosquitoes sluggish.

However, if your ENO has been out in the back yard exposed to UV rays and rain for any extended period of time, I might be concerned about the fabric rotting.

the ENO is pretty new - less than 3 months old. I do not have any structural ridgeline or anything for it - it would just be the ENO my 6ft polyester tree straps, my tarp and tarp ridgeline. If I have time I may swap the suspension out for whoopies for I go.

My only qualm is, I am more comfortable with the setup and breakdown and overall usage in the field of the Hennessy. I just don't want to run in to any issues with a new system. But the Hennessy is considerably bulkier and heavier which will be a consideration on this backpacking trip.

Even if bugs are not a problem, rain may still be a consideration. What would you be using for a tarp with the ENO?

tarp is a mac cat deluxe with a dyneema continuous ridgeline - i'll use it with either hammock - if there is any chance of bugs i think i'll go hennessy

Have you spent a night in the ENO? I'd go with which ever is more comfortable for a night's sleep. I love my ENO's and have spent nights in them but my WBBB while bulkier is more comfortable for me plus I find the bugnet provides some additional warmth.

In that case, I'd certainly go with the Hennessy. You want the comfort and you don't want any surprises. Worth the weight penalty, in my opinion.

yeah, i think after talking this out with you folks i just don't have the eno tested enough yet - i know the hennessy works for me, i have backpacked with it and it worked well - i also just ordered some whoopies for it so that will be a nice addition

I've carried both and I think the ENO is a more comfortable. You can set up a ridge line for it, like the Hennessy has. I'd take away the ridge line you have on the tarp and use it for a ridge line for the ENO. Make sure it's adjustable and experiment until you find the right hang. I've never understood why people put ridge lines on tarps, it's just extra weight and, as far as I can tell, doesn't do anything. Just my two cents.
