Some work better on silnylon than others. I prefer to make a 50/50 mix of high quality Silicone (in a tube from a Home store) and mineral spirits as a sealer on silnylon.

on tarp you only need to seal the ridgeline seam right? Unless you have the tie out in the center like shugs. And then you would seal those too.

That's correct. An exeption is a Warbonnet Tarp. The way he sews the ridgeline it does not need sealing. You could still seal it if you wanted to but its not needed.

The Permatex works most excellently. But, it is pricey.

Mine did not come with a two caps. I took pains to seal the opening after use with tape under the screw-on spout cap, But, I just returned to it to find half the tube hardened up, so I must not have stopped an air leak as well as the stuff seals against water leaks.

Why would it be pricey if its only about $3 and i only needed but so much.

I am with Shug on this one...50/50 siicone and mineral spirits makes GREAT seam sealer.

At Jersey Shore auto parts shops I paid about $6.50 w tax., not $3.

Everything with a Permatex name on it is pricey. But, the thread locker in tiny tubes will last for years.

I purchased the windshield sealer not for a complete ridgeline or windshield job, but for a leak at at a pull-out. As stated, I was disappointed that Permatex didn't help the buyer to preserve the unused portion, that's all. Some packagers supply a spout cap + the original re-sealing cap.

Some adhesive and sealant packagers do better than others. This applies in spades with urethane-based adhesives, which also cure with water vapor, strictly one way, no undoing. If the container doesn't reseal well, you're likely to be stuck with a block of dried super-strong urethane. Gorilla Glue urethane is an example of that.

I'm assuming your trap is silnylon. I also used the Permatex flowable silicone. I applied it using my finger so I could push it into the stitching holes. I was inexperienced. It was my first try, it was easy, took me like 15-20 min.

A sound recommendation that I got from another HF member was to stake your tarp out so it stretches the seams (and respectively the stitching holes) prior to application..

I know the silicone made into the holes. When viewed from the opposite side of the application I could see the silicone in the holes twinkle in the sun. So far, no problems.

I picked up a couple of these at my local A---Zone for $4.99 each. I just applied it to a tarp ridgeline this evening. It was a piece of cake. A nice thin bead. Thanx for the info on this.
