    Another single line questions

Hey guys, new to the forum and first question. I know this has probably been discussed but for the life of me I cant find where. Thinking about going to a single-line setup; but I was wondering if instead of attaching the hammock to the rope using metal rings and the clove hitch, would it be possible to just use two prusik knots, one at each end of the hammock? Seems it would eliminate any hardware, and be easily adjustable.
Also, if this is possible, or if someone already does it, what would be a good mainline to use? Would the prusiks hold on Amsteel? If they would, thinking you could have a UCR type knot between the hammock and the tree on one side and you would have the lightest, most easily adjustable setup possible with only one line and no hardware to mess with.

    thanks to everyone,

    BP

Here's a system that I like very much and am working on my own version of it, as have others: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=32421

I'm waiting for a strap and buckle order from Warbonnet. Then I'll be able to test my theory.

Amsteel is pretty slick stuff and I don't know if a prusik would hold well on it.

I tried hanging from prussic knots on Dynaglide; uh-hum.
Well, at least they let me down softly. It was sort of like riding an elevator!

I also use a version of BearChaser's SLS and was trying prussiks to attach the tarp to the SLS with no luck. While pondering the situation I believe I've found something that will work but I don't won't to expose anyone else to the possible dangers until some gravity test have been preformed. I'm working with an aged mental capacity here. If everything works as hoped will explain with pic later. Please bear with me.

The only problem with prussic's and Amsteel is that when loaded, it is a pain to get them to loosen because of the smaller diameters. Normally a prussic is used on line that is larger in diameter than the prussic line itself. If done traditionally, you would be using something like Dynaglide and Amsteel, or even Zing-it or Lash-it with Amsteel, which I would not hang from. I have tried Dynaglide prussic's on Amsteel once. While it did slip slightly but held, in my testing, the effort to get it loose and sliding again was very very troublesome. I just wanted to cut it off it was such a pain.

I tried out a form of the SLS with rings and amsteel and it let me go gently to the ground. I think amsteel may be a little too slippery for prusiks, but I only learned how to tie one last week. I haven't tried it in my suspension yet. I also should point out that I'm a big guy 300+, and that may be why it slipped. Whoopie slings are the best thing I've found for my personal needs so far, and they're easy to make after watching a few videos.

Just finished my testing on my idea around using prussiks on amsteel and posted a thread here
