Propane Heater, heating hammock?

I used the heaters with Oxy cut off & a C.O. Detector for back up.. While in a either a Dome tent or White wall. Never had a beep from detector, but slept toasty. When it's 10 degree's outside. brrrrrrr. I just Might resort to the Hotties, buy big box from Costco heat rate are 8-10 hours. Toss them in hammock.. should work great. Thus I am still exploring the art of swing from the tree's Vs Ground Dweller.

Your winter hammocking system needs to be designed around safety. If you use burners, stoves, hot water bottles, hand and foot warmers or any other secondary heat source and the failure of such compromises your safety, your gear is inadequate. Check out the " Frozen Butt " videos and carefully re-evaluate your gear. We in the Nord Country have successfully taken our systems into the -20'sF. Fourdog has gone down to a -30F. Be safe and have fun this winter.

I remember Jon-E hand warmers that we used ice fishing. Maybe one of those would warm you up and not the gear?

There is no substitute for Proper gear
heaters are nice but as you can see like OutandBacks setup it took time and money to perfect it (and a sweet setup it is )
safety should be key... remember Sil-nylon tarps will melt and or Burn under heat... you don't even need a flame, as will a hammock if it gets too close to the heat source also with a propane heater there are a lot of factors like running out of gas,CO2 cutoff turning if off while your sleeping,valves clogging from dirt .. you name it

also i would not rely on a heater alone to keep me warm again this plays into my statement that there is NO substitute for Proper gear
if you plan to hang in very cold weather have the right gear for the job
7 degrees is not the time to find out your setup does not work ... car camping or not it's not fun and can be deadly so please be safe

I keep a Guinea pig in my pack. You just feed him (or her) grass, woodchips, etc. while on the trail. They're very warm, soft, and delicious if you run out of food. You can't eat a propane heater...

But my stove doesn't poop in my pack or attract predators!

Yep, It's a portable wood stove weighs about 3#. Good for a basecamp setup.
More for fun than anything else. I don't use it thru the night, only when awake.

Provides a little atmosphere for evening entertainment



And cooks a mean breakfast in the morning



As GLP stated, having the proper clothing and quilts for winter is the best way and should be your primary source of protection from the cold.

years ago, a canadian hiker named Turk used to Pulk (human towed cargo sled) into the woods. He had a wood burning stove inside of his closed end tarp. Looked cozy as hell in the pictures.

I keep thinking about the eternal dirt nap that you might be taking not to mention tallying up the cost to replace the gear damaged or destroyed in a mishap and figure I might give some thought to a different direction. Maybe another or thicker UQ, TQ, etc.
