I have a little trip planned for tomorrow. Just a 1 nighter, nothing big. But it's the first hammock backpacking trip I've done. I've tested the hammock in my yard, I've tested it car camping where I had a tent to run to if something went wrong. But tomorrow I'm going out with just the hammock, tarp, sleeping bag and pad.
And I can't wait.
This journey started with an attempt to move towards ultralight backpacking. I changed from my MSR Whisperlight stove to an alcohol stove and Foster's pot. I'm moving from a 5 1/2 pound tent and a 2 to 3 pound Thermarest pad to a 1 pound 5 ounce hammock and a 14 ounce tarp with a lightweight gray pad for insulation. My pack should be much lighter. I can't wait to see what a difference it makes.
I know it's like a kid waiting for Christmas. But I'm just going nuts with anticipation waiting to get out to the woods.
