I don't always drink beer, but when I do...

I go sailing in high winds on the Shrewsbury River, and I am easily talked into walking the boom.

After our soccer team suffered a competitive 5-0 loss, a few kids and adults hit the Shrewsbury River for some sailing. The winds were 20-30 mph and we almost swamped a few times. We saw quite a few sailboats that swamped while we were out.

I don't know squat about sailing, but I now know that one person can be the difference between the boat swamping versus staying afloat. Amazingly, I was the heaviest person on the boat at 150 lbs. The captain was ordering me around like ballast to keep the boat sailing.

I had some struggles getting a cold beverage, and was talked into walking the boom. It was a really fun day.

The boat actually sailed a lot better with me in the hammock sail. I spent a half hour maxing and relaxing there.

I was totally soaked after a few hours of sailing. I made the mistake of wearing cotton shorts - they weighed a ton by the end of the day.

I think I'm gonna take sailing classes and get a boat. My house is 200 yards from the Shrewsbury River and 2 blocks from the Atlantic ocean. I'm trying to recognize and enjoy the positives about living in New Jersey.

There really is a lot to like about New Jersey, if you're an outdoorsman. The Pine Barrens make me feel like I was in south Alabama, and I'm looking forward to completing the entire AT in NJ.

There were some very muscular specialized speedboats called Jersey speed skiffs that were racing around the Shrewsbury. They looked like Corvettes racing along the waves. Drivers and passengers wore helmets.

Surfer, that looked AMAZING. When I lived on my boat, it was a 28' S2 built specifically for racing, and the only kind of sailing I ever wanted to do was in high wind.

That video makes me regret selling my boat...really, it does. GOD I miss that kinda sailing. Honestly, thank you for sharing that video.

On another note, where did that version of Anything, Anything come from? +1 for Dramarama.

The boat I was on got 1st place in the last big race on the Shrewsbury. It's a beast of a sailboat.

Dramarama is a legendary NJ/CA band that I've had the privelege to see live several times.

    What model is that boat?

Also, +1 for having seen Dramarama.

Dramarama > Buckcherry > Linkin Park for that particular tune.
