My shed has a issue with mice and chipmunks and I wouldnt want my gear getting chewed up. Lawnmower, bikes, and tools go in the shed.

But if your shed is dry, rodent free and secure, I dont see a problem with it.

I store all my gear the same way year round, in closets under beds, behind doors, where ever there is a free spot in conditioned air. Nothing gets stored in the attic or outside storage rooms that I really care about...that's why I keep the Xmas decorations, lawn mower and yard tools out there!

However, I just found these great Rubbermaid containers at Office Depot, they have a great drop in top tray for small items and larger ones in the bottom. Kinda pricey, I paid $20 each, but I did not shop for them so you may be able to do better.

Thanks Everyone! @ Darby- what I am meaning is that I normally leave my gear in my shed and when it gets cold on a regular basis whould that be ok? I like the idea of the tubs for quilts n hammocks. But the rest I think I could leave outside. I've had my uq (fronkey made) outside for bout 4 weeks now with theweather changes have only had one damp night due to intense storms and my snake skins acting as a funnel! Lol. As usual lots of help! And yes tis the hiking season!

Fall/winter is the best time to go out. You should give it a second thought. Your missing so much, essentially half a lifetime of hiking...
Ray Mears had a show titled 'Bushcraft' episode 'Four Seasons', it's worth a look.

My gear all sits in the office closet. Quilts hanging from the top shelf. everything else stored in rubbermaid containers. One of these days I'll have a "proper" gear room/indoor testing area. Just might not be till my daughter (now 6) goes off to college.

Since I got the oldest boy sent off to college, there is an extra room in the house. The wife likes to call it the "Guest" room, but I'd have to gather up all my camping supplies before any "guest" could stay in there.

I wouldn't store them outside in a plastic shed. When the first mouse decides to make his winter nest in your down UQ, you'll know why it was a bad idea. Plastic totes, in the plastic shed, will not keep them out either. Store them in a plastic tub inside a closet in the house. Like some have said here. Winter is the time to be hiking, keep them handy!

I use the plastic Rubbermaid things with drawers from wal-mart. Put all my cook gear and water purification in there and hang all the down garments.
