is it a full length zipper?

did some measuring. 56" at its widest pint and 36" at bottom. i picked bag with center top zipper on purpose to make hood altering easier.

Hooded bags can be tedious to use as quilts. Some hoods when removed can be converted into balaclava-like things.
Velcro of any type is tedious to use compared to a zipper.
Do you plan to remove the draft tube? It is extraneous to a quilt, but a nice thing to have on a sleeping bag.
Why not just go all the way and turn the bag into a dedicated quilt?
Thanks, went with your suggestion. scraping the velcro (as others said, its a long run) im going to make it a quilt only. im cutting it down from 66" in wide to 54". when i cut the baffles , should i push the down in (6" either side) before i hem? i dont think that would over fill it?
just waiting on sewing machine right now.

Shake the down away from where the seam will be. _sew first_ then cut. Saves chasing down blips all over the house.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I weigh 165# with a 41in chest, using Ray Jardine's formula I arrived at a 48in quilt width, and that's for ground sleeping. Unless you were a big guy 44 would likely be wide enough for a hammock but I'd make it wide enough to use on the ground...if I really had to.
