    Noob question to avoid CBS

New to hanging so be nice ;-). Starting a section quest in Oct. Ga first . Decided to ditch my tent and went Hennessy, my Bro in law (Tim) liked my idea and did the same. I use a 15 deg down bag and he has a 0 deg. More bag than I would use for a tent but I thought it would be a better idea. Now I am concerned that it won't be warm enough. I expect 30-40 deg nights so, will this do or do I need under help. I have an emerg blaket I thought I could use under my bag, however I am concerned about condensation. I also have a military issue self inflating pad that seems a bit narrow and heavy. I don't want to freeze Tim out as it would cause strain at family gatherings. Remember, hanging noob, so use single technical syllables, Thanks in advance.

Hey bone, sounds like a decent pad or hammock underquilt is in order to keep that dreaded CBS away. Any sleeping bag directly underneath you (slept on) tends to compress and destroy any warmth-inducing abilities. Have you had a change to peruse some of HF member's Shug's earlier videos? Might help with any questions to warmth and gear. Search him out on the member list and take a look at his signature for the vids. Good luck!

If the foot end of your bag will open, your best option to avoid carrying more or a separate purchase would be to cinch the foot end of the bag around the suspension, zipping the sleeping bag up around the hammock. This will work just like a PeaPod quilt -- it won't be as roomy in the hammock, but your bag will be able to loft out properly all around you, and you will be VERY warm.
