Finally! Cold enough to test.
Tested my summer bottom insulation last night, down to 50*. I used an HH (#2) replacement under pad with a 2QZQ Weathersheild and a SOL Emergency Space Blanket. Ran cord thru the HH Under pad side seams and attached them to the bungee harness. Snugged up the pad and it sealed perfectly to the hammock. Also ran cord across the head end to seal it against the hammock. Sewing channels to the pad instead and running a bungee harness from end to end would be much better. The pad could easily be moved along the harness to position it. The SOL space blanket is betterthan an el cheapo one, quieter and tougher.
Temps went down to 50* and I was comfortable, except for a bit of CBS (Cold Butt syndrome) with only cotton PJ's. My butt had only the PJ's and a thin hammock above the space blanket so it created a cold spot as the blanket needs some space above to be effective. I'll fix that by inserting my sit pad below my butt.
I'm very satisfied with this configuration:
Warm to: 50*
Cost less than $85 w/shipping
Weight, 17 oz
Multi use, incorporates a Weather shield & can use pad and space blanket above my down UQ to extend its range 20*
I,ve got an HH S/S Top Cover I'll try to fit to seal it like a Sock. If not that, than another 2QZQ Weathershield as a top.
