Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
Dec. 1-2 works best for me.
"No whining in the woods"
I don't have a TQ warm enough to go in to Dec., unless we have an unusually warm winter or I see something good in the For Sale forum.
My order of preference:
Nov. 10/11
Dec. 1/2
Nov. 3/4
Nov. 17/18
Dec. 8/9
I also prefer something where I don't have to hike over 2 miles to the gorup site, unless someone volunteers to push me in a wheelbarrow or a dixon pack.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
I was hoping it would be a park and camp. With back issues and bouts of sciatica my hiking distance is limited for now.

Out of curiosity, today I checked with a couple of state parks, Smithgall Woods and Unicoi. Neither allows hammocks. Also called a park here in south GA, and they have no objection.
Seems the decision is made at the park level, according to the Assistant Chief of Operations for the DNR, whom I called for clarification. He seemed open to the notion that hammocks can be a benign presence in the woods, but he did list reasons why they are prohibited. I plan to follow up with a letter to edumacate the department - maybe get 'em to unwind a bit.
As far as where to go, anywhere is fine with me.
Didn't someone say Raven Cliffs has park and camp sites?
Does anyone know if Vogel allows hammocks?

I personally am good with any weekend but I have a friend I recently converted that I wanna bring so she can check out different set ups before we gear her up and she can only go the Dec 8/9, so that's gonna be my vote.

Unfortunately, I can't really say what date will work the best for me at this time. Work is being screwy with our "usual" schedules (every other weekend off) between now and sometime after the 1st of the year. Guess I'm just gonna have to wait and see if I have off whichever weekend is chosen.
Personally, I prefer the option to day hike, but not be required to hike very far to camp. I'm not currently setup to carry my gear very far at this time...gonna have to work on counting some grams...

My son and I were hanging at Vogel this past year, back off the backwoods trail. Had to hike about a mile or so. I'd still call to check, but they were fine with us there.
