    Info for 1st hang

looking for a place to hang sometime in late November or December.. This will be a first hang so I would like to find a place somewhere between Windsor Ontario and Cambridge Ontario that will be open for camping this time of year that has some decent areas to hang...

looking to test my hammock gear in 0* weather along with some of my other new upgraded equipment... Would rather test my hammock set up and gear somewhere that is easy to pack up if something goes south...

Will probably do this a couple of times between November - March so I can work through any concerns with gear before I venture further into the wilderness in the spring. So it is important to find somewhere that is open or accessible during the time frame I have indicated... Hanging in the garage just isn't cutting it...

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

I would recomend testing it out in your back yard a couple of nights just to get everything dialed in.

I don't have trees in the backyard.... I did install a couple of hooks in the garage to set up and test the gear but it is just not the same...

    Hey I Hear Banjos,

Not living in Ontario, I can't help you with an area to try out, But I do have some advice for you. When you go it would be good to be near your car or a friends cabin / cottage. That way if things get too much for you, you have a bailout plan. Get in the car and warm up or the cottage. This time of year it is easy to get hypothermic. And it can happen slowly and affect your descision making abilities. Bring more clothing and insulation than you think you will need.

I don't mean to sound harsh but it can be dangerous if you are not used to hammocking in colder temperatures. It can be done safe if you are prepared. Check out some of Shug's videos.

    Good luck and be safe.
    Take care,
    Bluefin

    +1

Also if you can find them on Youtube, check out Turks cold weather videos as well. I believe, although I could be wrong, he still holds the record for coldest hang.

Many of us in Ontario have gotten together at Valens Conservation area near Hamilton for winter hangs. Check out some of the trip reports. Keep an eye out for trip planning threads. It's always good to meet fellow hangers to see other gear, get advice and meet new people.
