12 footers are nice. Especially for the guys who have WL hammocks and some of the longer ones.

And those with WBRR's. Heck, I could go for a 14' tarp. I've had better luck where I am finding longer distance spots that are better than shorter ones.

Try getting a low pitch with a longer ridge line. You will find it a bit difficult to do on a blackbird.

Can someone explain to me why this is so? Not really a factor on the RR, but I use an 11' Claytor for my go-light setup.

And personally, coming from previously using a bottom-entry Hennessy, I find it annoying getting in and out if I don't have my tarp high enough over the top-entry hammocks.

Basically the length of the tarp ridgeline limits how low you can pitch before it come in contact with the hammock suspension. Really only an issue for foul weather but that's what I enjoy.

My 8x10 sil-nylon tarp without guy lines and in the stuff sack weighs 13.5 oz. My 12 foot cuben with sack and guy lines weighs 8.5 oz. There is plenty of room to roam!

Nemo, I too have a 8X10 silon. With me my main consern is bulk size. which one packs to a smaller size.

Looking at both side by side in their respective stuff sacks the sil nylon tarp looks 2 inches longer. Diameter is about the same. Neither is mashed as flat as could be since bulk is not a factor for me. Based on this the cuben is smaller.

im in the back yard right now in my new rr.i have a cat cut cuban 0ver me right now ,and its really storming pretty good high winds and all.this is working ,but i think its more the perfect fit for the bb i ordered it for.going to have them make the perfect one for the rr.these people are great to work with,and a very fine product indeed.update its now raining hard with some real wild wind.i thought that this tarp would be fragile,but the wind seems pissed that it cant tear it down.buffalo skipper showed me his tarp rigging and i took it into my method,its really holding well thanks b skip.

Just curious, what is a RR?

If you guys are worried about a tarp that's too long, get the 12' for the coverage but also get additional Ridgeline tie outs 6 or 12 inches in from the ends. This makes your tarp a 11 or 10' tarp. It leaves you with a floppy triangle of fabric on the ends but a taught tarp.
I've got this on my big daddy and it's worked wonderful when I needed a tighter hang.
