    Equip Hammock "Beware"

    Howdy hangers high and low.
New guy here. I just bought the Wally World Equip on Thursday. I strung it up between 2 oaks at the inlaws and their rope broke sending me down on my tail bone. The tag says it's rated for 300#. I'm 185#, well under their rated limit. Their rope broke where it passes through a chennel at the head end.
Hammock camping is new to me and this is my first one (besides my multi colored cotton yard hammock). But Brussed but and ego aside (I fell in front of the inlaws and family who believe camping includes a giant canvas wall tent, buckskins and cast iron cookware) I will try again.
Be careful with the Equip rope. It is heavy and stif but I would not trust it..

    Sorry the arse hit ground!

What knot did you use? Just wondering since certain knots greatly reduce a rope's strength.

Hopefully you learned a few things, such as
Don't hang higher than your willing to fall
Don't hang in front family or friends until the gear is tested.
    Don't trust WW stuff.
At least that's what you just taught me

Hope you didn't get hurt, and you butt will be feeling better a lot quicker than your pride.

I used a quick release slip knot. But the rope broke inside the channel on the hammock. I think it's cheap rope. I think their hammock is built just fine and of a good, though heavy, material. But their rope could not be rated for the 300#. The hammock is huge.

Also- don't crank the hammock tight- let it sag as if it were a triangle pointing down. (30* is the number that gets passed around)

my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
    Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)

Sorry to hear! Ditto on the not stringing it up tight, if that is what you did. Dejoha has an awesome book called The Ultimate Hang. It is a lot of help when you are new. I actually have one of those equip hammocks, and am pretty pleased with it. We have had well over 300 in it before (only for about 10 minutes, but it held ok!). I did replace that rope suspension with a pair of whoopies though.

Ouch! I have a grand trunk that I've hit the ground in twice now. Once because I was using the steel hooks and had it hooked upside down. I just flopped in the hammock and was instantly on the ground.

Second time was about two weeks ago. There were two of us in the hammock and the rope broke right at the knot. Looked like someone cut it with a knife. What kind of knot did I tie? *shrugs* the wrong one...

I'm now using tree straps and a whoopie suspension from JacksRBetter. Shouldn't hit the ground again.
