    Smile From Huntington Beach, CA

    Hi all!

After more than 20 years of going back and forth between hanging and ground sleeping, I've decided to take the plunge by joining HF, and ordering a WBBB 1.1 double and a Yeti 3-season UQ. I think that combo with a good tarp might do me well in most of my Southern California camping and backpacking trips.

In the past I've backpacked with net hammocks (remember the Marina Double?), ENOs, and Hennesseys. I liked them all. Each one gave me a better night's sleep than any ground system, until it got to around 60 degrees. I learned the hard way that "FB" doesn't just stand for Facebook, but also "Frozen Butt"! Because I'm pretty big into UL and SUL backpacking, I was put off hanging in cooler weather because it seemed hard to achieve both the light-weight and low-volume loads that I like to carry with a full-blown hammock setup. I'm beginning to realize this may have been wrong. The WBBB may not have been the best choice for SUL, but it's such a sweet hammock that I decided to run with it and ditch weight elsewhere.

I can't get past the fact that hammocks are simply the most comfortable way to sleep in the piney woods and just beat the heck out of every other option. Thus I'm all in and looking forward to meeting some of you guys so I can pick your brains and learn from your experiences. I'm pushing 60 but I still like to get out regularly for short trips, so maybe I'll even meet some of you on the trail.

Thanks for making this forum possible!

    Welcome GrandpaMike,

I'm up on Vancouver Island with a WBBB, and they are indeed very comfortable, and very roomy.
