Finally got the time to try this- it works brilliantly! Super- Ultralight! Super Ultra-Cheap!
DIY out of the box at its best. And- I get to call them my Darth Hanger Snakeskins!

I tried this, but I guess I got low quality scrubby, because they got runs in them immediately, no matter how gentle I was. Gonna try a different pair from another store before i give up...it is only a buck or two after all. I really want this to work. Great Idea, Darth...the force is strong with you...

Re: Ready-Made Tarp "skin' for a buck or two

I never could get thing tight enough on my profly to help... The wind just pulled it up and unfurled it anyways... But tarp skins from mountain goat gear are cheap enough...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...

Darth Hanger you ROCK! this is one of the great DIY on the cheap projects. I just found this thread and had to run to the Dollar Store to get my Scrubbie. Only 99¢ for a set of Snake Skins!
After untying the scrubby it unrolled out to 14 ft. I cut it in half and on the large middle ends, I sewed on a bias tape hem with a plastic wire tie inserted. On the small end I added a taped hem. They measure when folded flat 4.5" large end and 2" small end. the Hem and tape gives the snake shape just like the other DIY ones.
OK, what is so great about this? The mesh weave will expand to fit over any size bulky tarp or slim down to as skinny as you want, but the length dimensions does NOT stretch. I limit the diameter with the two end hems. The nylon mesh is Tough built for wet use. This will work as well as the no see um mesh but only costs a buck.

Many thanks to Darth Hanger for this great idea!

Now, why didn't I think of that? (How many of us said that!?). Good on ya man! Now I gotta wait for the wife to go to work so I can tear one apart...I'll blame it on one of her several cats....

Just bought snake skins from JRB for a 9x9. Wish I'd have found this a week ago. Gonna try these for the hammock though. Awesome.
