Just received my black BB in the mail..

.. I cannot believe how light this thing is! Its a double 1.1. The material just feels so light its hard to believe how much weight it can hold. Does anyone know if the black ones are made with the same material as the standard BB's? I see on the site that black must have only been offered for a week or so.

A related question - is there any reason not to store a hammock in its stuff sack? I would imagine as long as it is not super compressed it should be okay..?

Thanks in advance for any advice! Cheers!

Congrats! Storing them in the sack should be fine.

I just received my black 1.1 double as well and am very pleased on how comfortable the fabric is. I tried it out with a pad in between the two layers and I cannot believe the difference the double layer makes.

No I haven't tried an underquilt yet. The only thing(s) holding me back are most importantly: 1) Versatility. If for some reason I want to go to ground (shelter in extremely poor weather, above treeline etc) I would need to have a pad... and 2) $. If I have 2 pads (1/4" and 3/8") I can use the 1/4" in summer, 3/8" in spring and fall, and combine to 5/8" for winter. I am definitely curious to try and UQ to see because it seems a lot of people absolutely love them... Also I currently use the pad as a frame for my frameless backpack.

I have used only a pad so far as well. For me (at least in my mind) its more about spreading out the foot area so I don't get any pressure on my bad ankle. Perhaps that wont be a problem with the BB, I'm looking forward to trying it out.. I just know it was an issue with my Hennessy.

I think winter will necessitate an UQ though..

Finally got around to hanging it up to test out. I have never been in a double layer hammock before. It seems like in some places, the top layer of fabric will pull taught while the underneath is a bit slack, and then in other places the opposite is true. I imagine this may just be normal for such a design, yeah?

Also - any tips on positioning a full length thermarest in between the layers? I had envisioned using it to help keep the footbox spread out, but am finding that doing so takes it down past my shoulders!

Hi, Ive never found this issue your having with layers of fabric being slack underneath or on top. Are you spreading the fabric out before entering?
