That's interesting...can't find too much info on the manufacturer. It looks like maybe it was Pawley Island (who makes rope hammocks), but they don't have any info on their web site.

It looks like the have an "insulating pocket" but from the picture it appears it only goes halfway, so I'm not sure how well that would really defend against CBS.

If the weight limit were a little higher (I always wonder if that weight limit is based on the suspension or the fabric), I'd be in for one. At that price, your wallet won't hurt too hard, I'd imagine.

(also, good to know there are fellow wooters here)

Pawleys Island is the Manufacturer. That'll explain the weight.

210D nylon explains the weight. With that may come friction, local stiffness, and sense of greater size when in the hammock.

The Hennessey Safari has these specs (including 30-34 oz of rainfly and suspension)

    Packed Weight: 3 lbs 14 oz / 1760 g
    Packed Size: 5" x 8" x 12"
    Hammock fabric: 210D Oxford Nylon
    Hammock dimensions: 112" x 52"

Nobody, I think, disagrees with BillyBob's frequently posted report of the Safari being the very roomy hammock Hennessey claims it to be.

For price comparison, Hennessey is once again selling off Safari beds/ bottoms (ie netless) for $49 + $15 shipping.

Regarding shipping, Woot is $5 shipping, no matter how many you buy (not sure if there are new rules, but normal Woot limits you to purchasing in maximum lots of three).

2lbs 12oz doesn't seam that heavy. only 3oz more than the Hennessy Expedition but it doesn't look to come with a rain fly. That compression sack is a plus. Not sure i like the way the mesh looks however.

Think I may get the Castaway Double Camping Hammock for the backyard

I bought a couple of the Parachute hammocks at Sports Authority (found them on a bottom shelf, they didn't even know they had them) in the spring for about $25 a piece. permanently hung one up outside by the pond and gifted one to my brother in law for his back porch.

While the camping hammock version looks a little better, the parachute hammock came with just a short rope loop and S hook suspension. I replaced the rope with some Amsteel loops and a carabiner and hooked it to some rings I mounted under my deck posts. It has held up being outdoors in the Pennsylvania weather all summer with only some slight fading, and gets some pretty heavy use between myself and my family. I was impressed with the quality, and definitely worth the $15 to pop in the car as a cheap semi disposable day hammock.

Just purchased the "double" for a bit more room, but the better half and I are both smaller people (we stay just under the 250lb weight limit). If its decent, I may be able to get her out in the woods for some short trips in it, as she hates being in her own hammock alone at night. Afraid of creatures of the wilderness.
