+1 for the JRB ccf pad. I have one and use it for hammock and ground camping. It does a great job at keeping the heat in.

I recommend a gossamer gear 1/4" wide pad. Had worked for me in the past.

Given your experience with your Thermarest, would you say the ccf would provide noticably better insulation?
Yes. The self-inflating pad I had seemed to "crush" at the pressure points and provide no warmth. I tried both underinflating and overinflating. . .both left me cold. I think your going to be better off with the Zlite & closed cell combo.

Two other things that seem to help. . .zipping up the sleeping bag feels warmer than using it like a top quilt. Keep the warm air in the bag. . .and it seems that my friends using synthetic filled sleeping bags are are staying warmer than me. I'm using down. I suspect the polyfill doesn't compress as much, keeping them warmer.

Thanks walterharold, I'll climb inside and zip up my down bag (I don't have a synthetic bag). If I need a little more insulation I could sandwich my synthetic Primaloft vest between the pads.

I use my WM bag as a quilt, when it gets down near freezing. Never had an issue of being cold. I leave the footbox zipped up about 18"

I haven't seen them in awhile, but WM used to have a blue pad that was sorta semi-eggcrate, and 25" wide. It was really pretty nice.
