After 117 continuous days/ nights of outdoor hanging I have finally got a place indoors to hang for the winter. Will try to get some pics up as soon as the painting is finished.
The room is a few inches over 13 feet, and I can hang two hammocks at the same time. I'm still trying to figure how to sleep in two at the same time. Ha.
I rigged up a hanging system that puts no strain on the walls even though it is fastened to them. The item that makes it work is a beam over head that keeps the wall pieces from tilting in.
The thing is adjustable vertically in 4" increments starting at 48" off the floor.
I hung three totally different hammocks on it this afternoon and it was a piece of cake to set them up.

I am now pretty convince that if you are an average size person just wont harm the frame of a sturdy house.

I know a lot of people worry about how to attach to walls, and rightfully so... Anyone who has taken trig can tell you that you can be putting more then just your own weight at each end... and that is lying still. Think about tossing or turning and it really seems like a big deal.

I can tell you about what the loads are... but I really can't tell you much about the strength of a house, other then that in 100% of cases I have been able to find it has been much more then enough.

I am a casual hanger with a drill and some 3/8th eye hooks. I kinda wanted to hang inside if it could be done safely and easily (1 eye hook each end), so I started researching. I found all the usual warnings about the load...and NOTHING about the actual strength.

Weird to say, but I consider myself pretty handy with the old google. I spent about an hour a night for a week trying to even one single case of someone damaging the frame of their house with a hammock.
Still looking for one. I found videos of multiple children in the same hammock being spun in loops, 400 pound men hanging with their girlfriend, one or two manufacturers who recommend a single eye bolt into a stud on either end, and a lot of warnings from people doing trig and talking about the loads... But no REAL damage, save a few people who used smaller eye hooks and pulled them out of the stud.

If someone has any first or second hand info of frame damage to a structurally sound house by a hammock, please post... But I am fairly convinced its all overbuilding and a 3/8 eye hook into a stud is plenty.

I have no evidence, so we can just call it hearsay.

My first hammock was hung between studs in a vertical wall. I slept that way for at least a month or two before I built a stand. Why did I build a stand? Because I started to feel things move and one day when I looked at the wall, I could see it bowing outward along the stud.

Did I do any structural damage? Probably not.
Would I have, given more time? In my opinion, yes.

I was in the 230s at the time, so not exactly an average sized hanger. Personally, I don't trust the method. OTOH, I can't recall hearing any stories about studs failing either. Still, it's a gamble I'm not comfortable taking.
