    Hey from western Maryland

    Hi All,

I'm 58 and have been hiking and camping the hills of Maryland and West Virginia for years but just recently got back into backpacking. After seeing hammock hangers camping and on the trail I thought I'd give it a try and bought a Eno Jungle Nest this Spring. After a few overnighters I'm happy with it and plan on trekking more in the future.

I enjoy Shug's videos and glad I tried this forum he recommended! Looks like a lot of good ideas and suggestions found here.

    Happy humpin'....John

Welcome packerjohn. I am new here as well. This is an awesome sight with wonderful people. You've seen the videos. There are obviously a lot more. I am hoping to do a group hang in November. This is highly recommended on the forum. Besides the actual face to face benefit, they say you learn a lot. That's my hope anyway. I am envious of the many places to hike and backpack you have. It seems we have to travel 2 hrs. Just to find a hill. Happy hanging!

Hi John, welcome from a fellow Marylander.

Good luck on your foray into the hammock world. Be careful though, before you know it, you'll be obsessed with all things hammock. I've had to sell my first two children to keep my addiction going. Don't worry, I'll make more... especially if I need the money for quilts.

    Happy hanging, neighbor.

Hi John, welcome from another MD'er. You are just in time for the best hanging weather. There are quite a few Marylanders here on HF and there is some talk of a get together in the near future.

    Hi Jason,

I'd be interested in a group hang. I'd also like to do the 40 miles of AT that runs through MD sometime. At this point I don't have the cold weather gear.....

The MD hang discussion was in this thread : https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...light=maryland. --look around post 120 I think.
I haven't participated in the planning or discussion as my schedule is a mess, but they seem to be moving on it.
The MD section is a nice section, lots of water, shelters and bailout places. I have some info on it if you need anything.

I'll be on the MD section of the AT 11/13-11/15 or 11/16. Not sure exactly which section yet, because I'm still waiting to hear from my buddy if he can get off work the 13th. Probably start at Gathland, or Turners Gap. Distance we go depends on if he gets off or not, but probably less than 15 miles.

Maybe I'll see you out there.
