    Norcal Pre Thanksgiving Trip

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a 3 day 2 night trip in mid November? I am about an hour from San Francisco but do not mind a few hours drive. Lately I have been spending all my time at Henry W. Coe State Park and am looking for a new spot to check out. I think the dates I am looking at are Sat November 15 -Monday 17th. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome.

(Note: I am an ultralight backpacker and average 15 miles a day.)

The spot I go to up in the mid Sierra mountains (the Grouse Ridge Area) should be reasonably warm in November. I've never hiked the Desolation wilderness near Lake Tahoe but there are lots of great hikes there. However, in the DW you need a bear canister.

Let's keep in touch and see if there are any other NorCal hangers interested.

Sounds like a plan. Working on adjusting my gear list now. Which area do you think would be best that time of year? I think my gear will handle down to 20*F but want to try and avoid snow.

This morning the wind came up and it was cold. I wore long pants for the first time in months.

I may go up to that area just to do a long one day workout hike this weekend and I'll be doing an overnight there next weekend. That should give me an idea of how cold it will be.

I'm heading out to the Castle Peak area today. Plan to hang aroung the Peter Grub Hut. I expect it to get down to about the mid 20's. GregB I wave to you as I drive through Colfax!

    Ventana Wilderness Trip November 17-19

So I am debating between Greg's idea of heading up towards Desolation or doing Ventana Wilderness. Everyone I talk to about doing Desolation says that mid-November = snow up their and think it will be way to cold for my gear. Ventana wilderness seems to be the place many of my local backpackers go during the winter. I am leaning more and more towards this route as I think it will be much better suited to the gear I have.

Anyone interested in joining me at Ventana November 17-19 us welcome. I am thinking about starting at either China Camp or Big Sur.
