I know he has since purchased from the cottage vendors, I've seen the evidence! I started 2 yrs ago and now I am known as "the hammocker" in work and amongst friends. The kids all recieved hammock gear for Christmas... That stays in "my" gear closet for safe keeping!

Wow I'm just getting into the madness of hammocking. In the past month I've spent redonkulus amounts of time looking up hammock gear and doing research.

Well, you ain't no noob no more, are ya? Seems like I've been hanging with ya for years. My, how time flies.

You definitely have to update this thread - it's been over a year since you posted this and we need to know the progression of the obsession.
Time keeps on tickin tickin tickin into the future...

"Normal" haha, yeah well, others can be the judge.

I do need to do an update, much has happened, many converted.
Folks are now annoyed if I haven't provided them a hammock.

Jtdad is right, plenty of orders with dutch, Brandan, Marty and many others...and a bunch of diy stuff.

No idea what the destination is but the journey is hella fun!

Yes! You neeeeeed a hammock stand! Oo-oo! What kind of stand? Turtle Lady? Turtledog? Military surplus camo pole, aluminum or fiberglass? Threaded pipe? Cantilever bottom beam? Tensegrity?

Had to keep this thread alive. I'd like to hear more "obsession progression" stories. We all started out without a clue as to what we were getting into! I'm curious to know what made you choose your second or third hammock? What was the purchase that you most regretted? What is the one upgrade that you can't believe you survived without in the beginning?

For me, it's cinch buckles and poly tree straps (Dutch setup). I was using the old slaps with the old heavy biners (the ones that put tiny holes in my ENO DN). Changed out the biners pretty quick, but I can't believe it took me over a year to make the switch to cont. loops and cinch buckles. What a difference! I can now set up hammock exactly the way I want to and not limited by the pre-sewn loops of the slap straps. Also, the old straps were nylon and I woke up on my butt multiple times.
Have recently upgraded to a new hammock and am really starting to understand the why everyone calls the ENO a "starter". Don't get me wrong, my ENO will always have a place in my heart as my first love, but man what a difference in my new Streamliner DL. It's amazing how small adjustments to the right gear can totally increase your joy and comfort in the woods.

Keep the stories coming. Can't wait to hear more from Ratdog.

I'm glad to see this pop-up again - a very enjoyable read.
I've determined that there isn't a destination, but just the journey (unless you want to count the grave, but we are all to young at heart to do that).

I will add to this. I am in the "diy stage" just got done making a acu camo hammock and thinking of giving that to a camping buddy. Now i just watched hikingdads youtube videos on making a bridge hammock and now i want one real bad.
Then i plan on making a diy UQ. Then my friends will need UQ's hahah, this stuff is addicting!!!

END?! It can't end until EVERYTHING has been tried. and by then more new stuff has been created.
fairly accurate portrayal of the hammocker's life and education, luckily I don't plan any DIY projects as I am not that creative. it is not where my strength lies, but I will support others who are creative .
been at this under a year, have 4 hammocks 2 tarps and 2 more to come(at least)already have 2 more stoves to get, (have 2) sleeping bags(-60winter bags, wiggy's) UQ TQ for winter.....it wont end, just will be better planned out.
