With Christmas around the corner is it bad to use your childrens presents as an excuse/justification to increase your gear selection?

I'm still stuck somewhere in the first couple of posts, but I see what I have to look forward to....

    My last 2 years!

Should be required reading for all newbies. Just to show that this obsession doesn't come easy. And as a reminder for the rest of us who have lived it.

    Thanks Ratdog from another dog.

Another way to look at it is a one time investment.

For example, I just went on a 14 day trip and it costs me about $150 for food and consumables because I already had the gear. Which isn't bad at all for a two week vacation.
