    What Else?

I understand that hammock camping is an end in itself, another form of camping out, which is its own world of wonders. My time in a hammock until the last few weeks was spent napping and reading on camping trips with my children.

But camping, including hammock camping, is also antecedent to other activities like hunting and fishing.

Out of curiosity, what other activities are pursued by members of the forum, which your hammock serves? Photography? Outdoor cooking? Edible wild plants? Bird watching? Travel?

Because of an injury I have to switch to UL gear and have immediately seen the advantage of UL and hammock camping for emergency use and Christian preparedness. How many carry your gear all the time, say in your car or truck?

I hike to hang away from the crowd and normally take pictures along the way of wildflowers, wildlife (if I see any), and other cool sights to share with couch dwellers.

I don't keep my gear with me, but it's ready to be packed and in the car at a moments notice...

I'm new to hammock life; have spent many a night over the years on the, uh, terra firma while section hiking. Don't carry my kit but everything's pretty much ready to go without a lot of fuss.

All of the above except on an Adventure Touring motorcycle (or cage...read; car).

I used to do a lot of backcountry flyfishing, but I don't fish as much these days since The Boy came along and we got involved in Scouts. He's now 9 (almost 10) and while we spend a lot of time in the outdoors, it's mostly hiking and working on Scout skllls.

He's a hanger, too, though, as are a few more in our Cub Scout Pack.

Now, I just need to get him more interested in fishing...

Usually, I just hike to be in the outdoors but, depending on where I am, I take my flyrod.

Any cycling trips and my hammock comes with me. Lots of "treeless" hanging involved in the mid-west.

Those take-down fly/spinning outfits are awesome, huh? Light as a feather ... and most fish anyone catches can be caught on ultralight gear.

There is a lot of fish bait under leaves and rocks on the ground!

Almost anytime I travel, for business or for pleasure, my hammock system and stand go with me. I prepare my hosts to understand that I will sleep outside, in the basement, or etc, but that the hammock is more important than the privacy of a separate guest room. Yes, they often think I am crazy, but I know I will sleep well and be able to function comfortably the next day.

I like to whittle. I'm not terribly good at it, but I find the process very relaxing in the woods.
    Course, I also carry band-aids.

My hammock goes with me everywhere.
    Trust nobody!
